    Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our QA / Inspection Department.


    We are pleased to accept resumes for QA - NDT Inspector.

     

    This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.with travel required within Hampton Roads, Florida, and other CONUS and OCONUS areas where work is required.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform M/T, P/T, U/T and V/T inspections
    • Create, modify, and maintain Quality Assurance procedures
    • Interpret engineering drawings and follow written audit guidelines
    • Analyzes documentation, such as drawings, military specifications and standards, Quality Verification Plan (QVP), Quality Assurance Procedures (QAP), Procurement Inspection Plans (PIP), etc., to determine the level of inspection and the best method of inspection and tooling required to perform the inspection.
    • Inspects machined parts for defects associated with grinding and machining; such as heat stress cracking and tearing
    • Performs magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual examinations
    • Should be the example of what a safe employee does and looks like during all day to day activities
    • Regularly ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolds, etc… for completion of inspections
    • Enter confined spaces when necessary to complete inspections
    • Position requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, walking, climbing,
    • Inspects welds for cracks, undercuts, slag inclusions and workmanship
    • Required to perform the duties of a discipline lead, and/or interface with other disciplines in accordance with departmental procedures and standards 
    • Generate reports of conditions found during inspection activities, notify production, Superintendents and Quality Assurance/Quality Control management of significant problems, completes documentation necessary to attest to satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities
    • Responsible for completing necessary paperwork and documentation in accordance with work instructions or procedures in a neat and organized manner
    • Performs pre-inspections of completed work
    • Attends, Witness and Verifies Tests and Inspections
    • Witnessing tests and in-process inspections
    • Understand and act upon instruction
    • Work independently to complete responsibilities
    • Must have regular, reliable attendance
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience should include but not be limited to porosity, fusion, depth, and crack characterization

    Must have a strong understanding of Government Specs

    Experience with USN 52 & 58 series ultrasonic units a plus

    Must have knowledge of NAVSEA Standards, QA & OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1910 & 1915

    Minimum of 5 years experience of field Quality Assurance/Control experience

    ABS Survey experience

    Minimum of 5 years of experience with ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II in VT, PT, MT, UT-shearwave

    Technical or vocational training

    Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items and Quality

    Valid driver’s license and a good DMV driving record

    Ability to obtain a security clearance

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heavy machinery, heights, noise, dust, dirt, fumes, gases, smoke, and confined spaces. There will be an exposure to extreme weather conditions. Must be able to climb up and down stairs, ladders, and spend time moving throughout the facility and on board marine vessels.
