    Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates for our Estimating / Contracts Department.

    We are pleased to accept resumes fo Project Manager.

    This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.


    The Project Manager will plan, direct, coordinate, monitor budget and performance track and negotiate changes, and report activity to senior management, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with the overhauling or repairing of ships and/or other marine vessels. Project organization, scheduling, problem identification, customer interface and plan implementation are some of the responsibilities of this position as well.


    • Develop the overhaul or repair implementation plan 
    • Track, estimate and negotiate any and all change work to the contract
    • Recognize potential problems early, recommend solutions, and implement corrections
    • Correlate with Accounting, Production and Estimating to develop metrics and reports 
    • Monitor progress throughout project or multiple projects
    • Track problems that were encountered during the project and the solutions that were implemented
    • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and repair problems
    • Interpret specifications and contract requirements and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients, 
    • Assist in performing job cost projections / Monitor cost, schedule and quality of the project(s) and immediately report any issues that would affect cost or schedule performance
    • Prepare and submit budget estimates and progress and cost tracking reports.May be required to go onto the ship or vessel to perform ship checks and verifcation of data
    • Compare progress to cost and schedule, identify problem areas and recommend corrective action
    • Ensure that production performs work in accordance with established procedures and regulatory body requirements
    • Respond to quality issues raised by Colonna’s QA and customer inspectors by following through on corrective action / Assist QA in completion of all required documentation
    • Ensure that all issues raised are resolved in a timely manner
    • Advise other managers on status of work. Interfaces and acts as liaison with customers, contractors and suppliers. Reviews and recommends changes and resolves technical problems.
    • Develop plans and procedures for area of responsibility within government-approved scope
    • Provide technical and operational support and services to ensure quality assurance standards are met in providing support to various project tasks. Develops reports on the progress and status of assigned projects. Initiates corrective action to support task problems and failures
    • Communicate to production employees the importance of completing work according to the job quality standards in the contract
    • Work independently to complete responsibilities
    • Must have regular, reliable attendance 
    • Working over 40 hours per week may be required on a regular basis
    • Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates



    • 5-8 years of Navy or Ship Modernization and leadership/project management experience
    • Effective negotiation, problem solving, and decision making skills
    • Ability to organize and direct a project to completion. 
    • Ability to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions. 
    • Ability to develop a vision for the future and create a culture in which the long range goals can be achieved. 
    • Proven ability to drive improved cost and schedule performance
    • Proven ability to manage Risks and Opportunities

    General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 20% of the time and going on ships or in the shops to accomplish shipchecks or verify data. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
