    Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Structural Department


    We are pleased to accept resumes for Structural Fitters - 1st and 2nd class. All shifts available: 1st shift: 7AM-3:30PM 2nd shift: 3:30PM-12AM. Shifts mentioned below will be our furture shift change starting 2019:


     1st shift: Monday- Thursday 6:00AM- 4:30PM (4 10’s)

    2nd shift: Monday-Thursday (into Friday morning) 4:30PM- 2:30AM (4 10’s)

    Weekend shift: Friday-Sunday 6:00AM-6:30PM (3 12’s)

    This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.


    • Create and comprehend templates, blueprints, and sketches
    • Working with presses, floor shaping, forming plates, shaping from templates, marking symbols, doors, hatches and scuttles, rolls, presses and blacksmith shop
    • Laying out blueprints, checking and fitting materials, tack welding of various sub-assemblies peculiar to the panel line and shell area such as decks, bulkheads, side shells
    • Working on ship ways with the erection of units and installation of structural items
    • Installation of structural outfit items, doors, ladders, foundations
    • Effective sequencing of assembly and fitting and tack welding
    • Correct use of heating torches in plate heat straightening and shrinkage
    • Shop and field fabrication
    • Adherence to industry codes, regulations, and specifications
    • Bulkhead and deck inserting, riveted and deck inserting
    • Read and understand the Chemist and Competent Persons report and determine if job sites, particularly those involving combustible material, are safe for personnel and hot work


    • 3-5 years of experience 2nd class, 5+ years of experience 1st class in shipyard repair work.
    • Able to take and pass a fitter/tack test (written and practical)
    • Must have an Aluminum background
    • Willing and capable of working on government and commercial vessels
    • Enter and move through manholes to reach and work internally confined spaces
    • Able to work independently and with instruction
