    Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Down River division.


    We are pleased to accept resumes for Pipe Fitter, Lead Mechanic Supervisor, 1st shift.


    This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

    Responsibilities

    Manage, supervise, and direct the day-to-day efforts of department tradesmen assigned to the project.

    • Train lower level mechanics and semi-skilled employees.
    • 75-80% of the time will be spent aboard assigned vessels supervising staff ensuring  all work done on the vessel and in-house is completed on time, on budget, and to the contract quality standards.
    • Inform staff of expectations and provide clear and consistent direction.
    • Providing training to new employees covering shop equipment and procedures.
    • Keep track of budgets and spending for their assigned jobs.
    • Maintain the right mix of skilled and semi-skilled employees working to keep the dollar cost as low as possible.
    • Provide ample notice of manpower needs and changes to the Resource Manager.
    • Manpower scheduling and maintenance to include controlling overtime hours.
    • Keep track of and minimize material costs, to include storeroom issues, subcontractors and job materials.
    • Report and initiate discipline for safety infractions in accordance with company policy.
    • Fill out all daily hot work notices, daily day shift and night shift turn overs (written and hands on), employee time cards with vessel name and numbers, and requisitions for material.
    • Maintain the vessel, shops, and surrounding areas in a clean and safe condition.
    • Identify and address all issues that may affect the successful completion of assigned projects.
    • Be able to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
    • Required to work overtime as the work dictates

     

    Qualifications

    All qualified candidates must have a minimum of 6 years' experience as a pipefitter, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience leading teams of 5-15 trade personnel

    • Must have ship repair industry experience
    • Microsoft experience is a plus
    • Able to work overtime, as needed.
    • Will include some travel, so able to gain access to government bases via a successful background check is a must
