    Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Maintenance Department.


    We are pleased to accept resumes for a 2nd Shift Maintenance Supervisor. 


    This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.



    • Supervise the repair and overhaul of all vehicular equipment and related components: oversee all shop operations.
    • Coordinate incoming work with existing workload.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
    • Ensure sufficient task analysis are completed to carry work out safely.
    • Evaluate all maintenance work to ensure that work I performed is performed within established time frames
    • Request equipment, materials and consumable as required within limits of authority.
    • Monitor the use of materials and care of equipment and materials to minimize waster and damage.
    • Prepare short term schedules at an agreed frequency, i.e. daily and weekly.
    • Ensure that all department employee are constantly employed efficiently and effectively.
    • Provide leadership and direction to assigned labor.
    • Refer disciplinary action to the Resource Manager.
    • Ensure all work is carried out to qualify and specification requirements and that documentation is completed on time.
    • Instruct subordinate in the proper use of shop equipment and tools.
    • Provide assistance with repairs when needed.
    • Make recommendations regarding maintenance procedures when requested.
    • Assist in the management of harmonious environment, team building and training of apprentices and other employees as required.
    • Plan, organize and coordinate the day to day running of the shop, i.e. by writing work orders and by arranging for shop staff to perform necessary maintenance and repair work on vehicles.
    • Check the activities in the shop, inspect complete work for compliance with safety and other statutory regulations, and make sure defects are repaired or adjusted.
    • Daily time cards are completed accurately and on time.
    • Enforce safety rules through ongoing communications and Toolbox meetings.
    • Ensure maintenance shop security, i.e. machine lockup, mobile equipment, gates, office.
    • Ensure equipment and tools are secure and used correctly.
    • Assist in interviewing new employees, employee documentation and discipline, performance appraisals.
    • Board ships via stairs, ladders and gangways with tool bags and needed equipment.
    • Control cost in assigned area of responsibility.
    • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/ shoes and, when necessary, respirator.
    • Work independently to complete responsibilities.
    • Must have regular, reliable attendance
    • Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.



    • Minimum of five year's experience in the supervision of a trade ship.
    • Technical training preferred.
    • Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools an instruments associated with the equipment mechanic trade.
    • Must be able to work effectively with others. 
    • Able to work all shifts, overtime and weekends. 
    • Requires auditory acuity capable of hearing forklift back up alarm, moving vehicle horns or other safety alarms and warning signals.
