Overview

Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Cooperate Office.


We are pleased to accept resumes for the Material Estimator role.


This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Work with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments and Production to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare material estimates.
  • Provide all inclusive bid package to approving parties for evaluation and adjustment
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Review material requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Requests/coordinates with Purchasing Department to submit bid packages to vendors for specialized portions of project.
  • Review and monitor on going jobs for changes from specifications.
  • Estimate material cost of change orders
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance

  • Management Skills - Ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively supervise others.

  • Business Acumen - Ability to grasp and understand business concepts and issues.
  • Judgment - The ability to formulate a sound decision using the available information.
  • Problem Solving - Ability to find a solution for or to deal pro-actively with work-related problems.
  • Strategic Planning - Ability to develop a vision for the future and create a culture in which the long range goals can be achieved.
  • Must be familiar with marine vessel terminology and abbreviations.
  • 2 years minimum Estimating experience
  • Intermediate understanding of Windows Operating Systems
