Overview

Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Benefits Department.


We are pleased to accept resumes for a Benefits Administrator.


This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as main point of contact for employees and vendors for routine inquiries regarding company benefits and retirement plans.
  • Coordinate routine processing of all insurance and 401k transactions, including enrollments, changes and terminations, and associated payroll entries.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding QMCSOs, QDROs, distributions, and claims.
  • Coordinate administration of leave cases with leave administrator to ensure compliance with insurance plan contractual requirements.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and annual open enrollment.
  • Reconcile and coordinate payment of insurance and retirement plan invoices.
  • Participate in annual 401k non-discrimination testing and annual 401k audit.
  • Assist with data compilation for reporting and analysis.
  • Coordinate benefits related internal and external communications, including educational meetings, webinars and videos.
  • Distribute benefits related notices, documents and materials in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain files and documentation.
  • Conduct audits to ensure data integrity within HRIS, payroll and vendors’ systems.
  • Administer workers’ compensation claims in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Track and review workers’ compensation claims to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting.
  • Facilitate restricted duty assignments and injured workers’ return to work.
  • Serve as main point of contact for worker’s compensation claims inquiries, including physician’s offices, injured workers, supervisors, safety department, adjusters, etc.
  • Complete OSHA recordkeeping (including annual electronic reporting), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reporting and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) reporting.
  • Participate in annual workers’ compensation renewal activities
  • Monitors, administers, and communicates with employees matters regarding COBRA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA and other federal and state laws ensuring compliance
  • Administer all family and medical leaves, ensuring compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and maintain appropriate records
  • Process actions pertaining to Short-term and Long-term disability programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Preferred work experience includes a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High standard of attention to detail, including strong organizational skills and meeting deadlines.
  • Solid commitment to providing customer service.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity required.
  • Good critical thinking abilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
