Overview

  • Supervise and coordinate all activities of insulators & laggers in the shipyard.
  • Responsible for safety
  • Responsible for administering discipline to assigned employees
  • Directly supervise steel employees in work task to verify and ensure conformance to specifications, drawings, procedures, and quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Interpret company policy to workers and enforces safety and environmental regulations.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, sketches and work orders to employees.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of customer product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of workers.
  • Assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Hire and train employees
  • Perform planning, assigning, and directing of work.
  • Address complaints and resolve them
  • Planning and preparing a fabrication shop schedule of all known and anticipated work, based on staffing and material resources.
  • Layout mild steel and stainless steel heavy and light structure, frames, skids, piping and other projects for fabrication.
  • Monitor and support all shop projects maintaining high quality, on time delivery, safety and staying within budget.
  • Understanding and adhering to the defined scope of work.
  • Following company procedures regarding material procurement and return; pre planning equipment and material needs.
  • Must be able to accomplish fabrication shop work in an efficient manner
  • Document and maintain files of weekly "tool-box safety training" accomplished
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, respirator
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Capable of planning and executing insulating jobs off site, goal oriented with a focus to expand the shops capabilities and size.

Responsibilities

  • 5-10 years of experience as a supervisor of (10) or more insulators.
  • 5-10 years of “hand-on” experience in the layout, fabricating pads and installing lagging
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and understand fire ratings as designated by USNS and USCG standards.
  • Experienced in QA/QC programs and procedures
  • Capable to creating project material lists based on as found conditions and based off DWG’s.
  • Working knowledge of all common top coating paints associated with insulation as well as willing to supervise coating application to complete installation jobs.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with managers, field personnel, customers and employees.
