Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Electrical Department.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.


  • Lead a small crew (5-8) of department tradesmen assigned to the project.
  • Must demonstrate thorough knowledge and skill of electrical type construction and apply hands-on supervision with effective leadership.
  • High school and/or trade school diploma preferred.
  • Must have a valid, non-restrictive driver s license.
  • Must be a good communicator, motivator, and team player.
  • Must understand all tools of the electrical trade.
  • Maintain knowledge of correct use of trade specific tools for electrical installations and correct use of electrical testing equipment.
  • Should display expertise in conduit and cable tray installation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of motor controls and SCADA systems and working knowledge of the NEC.
  • Maintain a general understanding of other foreman specialties such as labor, mechanical, concrete and civil as related to the electrical discipline.
  • Ability to read plans, safety manuals and blueprints.
  • Train lower level  Electrical mechanics and semi-skilled employees to bring them up to speed with demands of specific electrical projects.
  • Maintain the vessel, shops, and surrounding areas in a clean and safe condition with coordination of safety and Electrical Shop Foreman.
  • Become familiar with all work-related documents such as drawings, manuals and question requirements that are not clear or appear to be in conflict
  • Identify improvements that can be made in yard work process
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment-hardhat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary respirator
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance

Other duties may be assigned as work load requirements dictate.


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of (8) years Marine Electrician experience within the trade to be supervised or relatable Electrical experience in a similar Industrial or Commercial Setting.
  • Must not have bulk of Electrical experience centered in the residential field.
  • Previous supervisory responsibilities required, in the from of identifying quality talent and developing growth in talent new to the Electrical Trade
  • Must have “LOCK OUT TAG OUT” Experience and have experience creating plans for lock our tag out on a project specific basis.
  • Technical training preferred on a state or board certified level, but not required.
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade
  • Must be able to work effectively with others
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow complex instructions
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete responsibilities with minimal direction
