Management Trainee Program (Post-Graduate)

Colonna's Shipyard Management Trainee position is a Professional Development Program designed for Post-Graduate Professionals to discover a variety of career options within the maritime and shiprepair industry with Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc., Colonna Down River and Steel America.

Selected candidates will learn a broad understanding of Colonna’s Shipyard and Down River’s primary business of ship repair, as well as, Steel America’s heavy industrial fabrication and repair. In order to accomplish this, each selected candidate will receive extensive training in all aspects of our business, by spending time in various departments and working on actual projects. Our program develops your skills and identifies your strengths, which will establish the right path for you to excel within the company upon completion.

As a Management Trainee, you will need technology skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and enjoy interacting with lots of different personalities. The trainees who successfully graduate from our program are self-motivated, have a strong work ethic and like new challenges.

• Work alongside managers to plan and direct the work of the organization
• Evaluate work output
• Attend lectures, presentations, and training sessions as needed
• Work in different departments to gain perspective on each position and trade
• Develop and implement actions of improvement
• Learn functions of the operation, management viewpoints and company policies and practices that affect each phase of business
• Monitor performance progress with management
• Will learn and be expected to model our “Safety First” Culture including OSHA and Safety programs

• Bachelor’s Degree; required
• Working knowledge and experience with computers, typing, software programs and Microsoft application (Office Suite); required
• Effective decision-making ability, even in high stressful situations
• Positive, enthusiastic attitude with leadership mentality
• Strong desire to learn, grow and thrives on working in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Ability to multitask, extremely organized, great attention to detail
• Excellent communication/written/verbal skills must be able to speak effectively over the phone and in-person and with people from various backgrounds and cultures.

Position compensation is based on experience.
