Overview

Weld America a division of Colonna's Shipyard Inc. is hiring for a project-based QA-NDT Inspector. This position will work on a project in Charleston, SC. 

Responsibilities

The QA-NDT Inspector is responsible for conducting, documenting, and maintaining records associated with inspection per customer and contractual requirements. The QA-NDT Inspector understands and enforces the Quality Assurance (QA) program to ensure company production efforts are in compliance with customer directives, requirements and specifications and the Quality Management System. Assures Nondestructive Testing (NDT) inspections are in compliance with customer directives, requirements, and specifications.

 

  • Oversees / monitors inspections then documents inspection results on required forms; organizes and reports the results of NDT inspections.
  • Maintains custody of the equipment required for Level-II NDT inspections.
  • Maintains personal NDT training and qualifications.
  • Documents inspection attributes correctly on Quality Assurance forms.
  • Ensures that all QA forms, test documents, work instructions, and any other form of objective quality requiring initials, signatures or any other verifiable form or acknowledgement of completion are done so in accordance with all applicable requirements.
  • Reports to the Quality Manager on all matters relating to quality and quality assurance.
  • Coordinates all aspects of quality associated with their specific area of responsibility.
  • Ensures that all aspects of the task Test and Inspections Plan (T&I Plan) are carried out and documented.
  • Performs VT, MT, PT and UT inspections as required.
  • Analyzes documents, drawing, customer requirements and quality procedures to ensure the Company meets the requirements and standards of the customer.
  • Generates, reviews and/or submits condition found reports, process control procedures, test documents and/or Corrective Action Reports (CAR) as required to document customer requirements or non-conformances.
  • Inventories and maintains test equipment and gauges.
  • Prepares presentation materials, teaching aids, handouts, etc. and conduct training when warranted.  
  • Performs audits and / or surveillance as needed or assigned.
  • Works independently to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance and abide by all Safety Requirements
  • Other job related tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years’ experience in NDT and Quality Control / Assurance
  • Experience with and a thorough understanding of NAVSEA Standard Items and other Government Specifications
  • Combination of any of the following NDT Certifications; VT, MT, PT and/or UT
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills required
  • Frequent travel and overtime may be required
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office products
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals.
  • Related Department of Defense experience including direct experience with government customer relations strongly preferred
  • Experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and ISO requirements preferred
  • Naval ship repair industry experience in mechanical and/or electrical systems and quality assurance/control requirements in ship repair preferred
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards.
