Colonna's Shipyard, Inc. is looking to obtain an experienced Dry Dock Technician with atleast a minimum of 3 years of shipboard shipfitting/welding experience. 


This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.


• Repair, modify, install and dismantle various shipboard hulls, bulkheads or deck
• Fabricate and install items made from steel, stainless steel and aluminum
• Assist a more experienced 1st class an/or 2nd class Fitter/Welder in more complex fabrication and installation operations
• Complete prep work and grinding as part of the installation process in all areas
• Work with presses, floor shaping, forming plates, shaping from templates, marking symbols, doors, hatches and scuttles, rolls, presses and blacksmith shop
• Install structural outfit items, doors, ladders, foundations
• Correct use of heating torches in plate heat straightening and shrinkage
• Safe use of hand and power tools
• Shop and field fabrication
• Adherence to industry codes, regulations and specifications
• Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates
• Install simple systems without templates and blueprints
• Bulkhead and deck inserting
• Riveted joint repairs
• Read and understand the Chemist and Competent Persons reports and determine if job sites, particularly those involving combustible material, are safe for personnel and hot work
• Other duties as assigned
• Understand and act upon instruction I work independently to complete responsibilities
• Must have regular, reliable attendance


• Minimum of 3 years shipboard Shipfitting experience
• Must have a working understanding of ship repair terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature
• Technical training preferred
• Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the Shipfitting trade
• Must be able to work effectively with others
• Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
• Enter and move through manholes to reach and work internally confined spaces.
• Must be a steady, reliable worker
• Must be able to comprehend and follow simple instructions
