Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Paint Department.

We are pleased to accept resumes for a Hazmat Technician.

This is a full-time position with Overtime, PTO, Paid Holidays, and 401K Matching available in Norfolk, VA.


  • Responsible for proper disposal of Hazmat materials
  • Required experience of mixing paints and knowledge of mixing ratios
  • Must be eligible to obtain a DBIDS badge
  • Must be able to lift and carry 5 Gallon paint cans over 50 feet
  • Need to maintain paint usage tracker for the shipyard
  • Need to maintain inventory of paint for the shop
  • Mix and apply of epoxy and enamel paints
  • Mix Solvents and Coatings accurately to formula
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance
  • Surface preparation and coating application in accordance with SSPC-SP-1, SP-2, SP-3, SP-5, SP-6, SP-10, SP-11 and SP-12.
  • Coatings Application:
    • Mixing of coatings to proper ratio


  • Minimum of five (2) years’ experience with accomplishing Corrosion Control and Preservation in the Marine Industry
  • Requires basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job description, skills and ability requirements as outlined above
  • Requires visual acuity necessary and appropriate to perform all job duties and requirements as listed.
  • Requires auditory acuity capable of hearing a forklift back-up alarm, moving vehicle horns, or other safety alarms and warning signals
  • Able to work all shifts, overtime and weekends
