Colonna's Shipyard, Dock Shop is hiring immediately for: Dockwatch 


Dockwatch conducts routine checks of vessels, provides needed maintenance for equipment, supports the dry dock team. 


This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.



  • Use a ruler to verify freeboard readings, read gauges and meters, and record logs
  • Fire watch duties
  • Work independently following clear and detailed instructions given by supervisor
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of Dry Docks and surrounding areas
  • Mechanical knowledge is needed to identify emergency leaks on piping and pump systems
  • Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance as directed by supervisor
  • Performs security walks following RFID checkpoint system




  • Required tools will be supplied




  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of industrial experience preferred
  • Verbal and written communication skills to interact with ships force, emergency responders, and shipyard supervisors
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to work effectively with others
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow instructions
  • Read measuring tape and/or ruler
  • Must have driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance
  • Must be willing to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or swing shift; including all holidays

Work Environment


Exposure to extreme weather conditions, dust , dirt, fumes, gases, smoke, and confined spaces are to be expected .


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position , the employee is regularly required to:

  • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment
  • Use hands to finger, handle, feel, or control objects and/or tools
  • Access areas of facility and vessels by inclined and vertical ladders
  • Hear, talk, and smell
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-7 years maritime experience in trade Technical training preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the Dockhand
  • Must be able to work effectively with others Must be a steady, reliable worker
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow simple instructions
