Overview

Colonna's Shipyard is hiring for a Dry Dock Maintenance Electrician to support our Dock Shop. 

 

Maintain safe and reliable dry dock operation.  The Dry Dock Maintenance Electrician acts as a part of the maintenance team to provide efficient and timely maintenance services.  Assist Dry Dock Engineer in daily operations of the facilities.  Work with Dry Dock Maintenance Manager to manage database and software to support facility maintenance infrastructure. 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preventative maintenance to ensure downtime repairs are minimized
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all relevant trades, local governmental bureaus, agencies and authorities
  • Perform maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm, and lighting circuits. Conducts insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effects repairs or replacements as required.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of Dry Docks
  • Able to read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints
  • Repair/Replace cables and connectors
  • Work involves participating in the installation, maintenance and repair of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, heaters, lighting and alarm circuits.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical and electronic equipment and cables
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting motors and electrical equipment
  • Adjust/align or replace components of motors, generators, and alternators such as bearings, centrifugal switches, brushes, diodes, etc…
  • Install shipboard power and lighting circuits using schematics, blueprints, or other drawings for routing and connection
  • Install and connect facility lighting and equipment circuits using conduit, hangers, and building wire
  • Familiar with a variety of engine room and ship's electrical systems
  • Identify various cables by cable types, number of conductors and wire size
  • Removal and installation of cables found overhead (ceiling), along a bulkhead (wall) or underneath deck (floor) - cable runs may range from a few feet to more than a thousand feet. Cable runs vary according to the cable size, length of the run, and physical difficulty
  • Understand and act upon instruction
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, respirator
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance
  • Working with various dry dock systems to receive products and conduct repairs and installations
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment
  • The ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors required for repairs
  • Conduct safety deck patrols during evolutions

Qualifications

  • Reliability
  • Knowledge and understanding of both scheduling preventative maintenance and responding to issues that arise and the ability to prioritize and delegate appropriately.
  • An advanced knowledge of electrical systems, a general mechanical background and a advanced knowledge of electrical circuitry
  • Previous practical experience in the mechanical field and experience in general equipment repair.
  • Possessing positive teamwork behaviors
  • Communication skills - written and verbal
  • Planning, organizing, and multi-tasking ability
  • Problem assessment and problem solving
  • Ability to attend dock evolution duties between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts

Position compensation is based on experience.
