Overview

Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Operations Department.


We are pleased to accept resumes for Production Manager.This position will be responsible for overseeing the shipyard operations overall.


This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee assigned trade production for Colonna’s Shipyard Inc., to include all Down River Projects.
  • Daily oversight of all assigned trades to include Foreman and other assigned shop personnel.
  • With the Director of Waterfront Operations, be the main interface for all production trades and shop requests while working closely with the program management team.
  • Oversight of project schedules, completion dates, and the management of these schedules to achieve on-time completion.
  • Management of processes to drive safety within the organization, budget adherence, quality and contractual requirement completion, and profitability of projects.
  • Collaborate with Safety and Quality, Contracts, and Estimating to develop metrics and reports as needed to monitor estimating and performance.
  • Monitor progress throughout project or multiple projects in accordance with all contractual requirements. Intervene if necessary to correct any issues by working with operations the program team
  • Interpret specifications and contract requirements and explain plans and contract terms to operations staff, workers, and clients,
  • Ensure that all issues raised are resolved in a timely manner
  • Implement systems to measure EAC and schedule progress weekly.
  • Responsible for identifying proper tooling and work practices to better the workforce
  • Job may require you to work hours outside of normal work week to ensure coverage  and timely completion of deadlines.
  • Review and resolve customer concerns/complaints, shop discipline and overall performance concerns
  • Overall responsibility for the assigned shops efficiency and measurable metrics such as but not limited to the DART rate, first pass yield and budgets.
  • Responsible to review and execute to a yard manning plan while also assisting other divisions
  • Practice and confirm that all employees, subcontractors and visitors follow Safe Operations requirements to include the use of PPE
  •  Set a personal example by always wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per company guidelines with no exceptions and correcting/documenting others who are not in compliance
  • Ensure that all Company Safe Operations initiatives and procedures are executed to include the safe planning of work, safety briefings, near-miss documentation and discussions, housekeeping practices.
  • Promote Safe Operations culture participation at the deck plate level.
  • Engage employees to be vigilant and vocal when it comes to safety issues, concerns and suggestions. 
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities
  • Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College Degree in related field preferred, and 8+ years of Navy or Ship Modernization and leadership/project management experience
  • Understanding of both ABS and NAVSEA requirements
  • Effective negotiation, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to organize and direct up to 30 employees
  • Must be organized, a good oral and written communicator
  • Proven ability to drive improved cost and schedule performance
  • Proven ability to manage Risks and Opportunities
  • Understanding of terms and conditions, insurance requirements, and contract requirements
  • Understanding of how to write, defend, and negotiate REAs, Claims, and disputes
